Breastfeeding your baby in the hospital----take advantage of the wake up time just after delivery for skin to skin and baby to breast---then in the next 24 to 48 hours you may have to wake your baby every 3 hours for going to breast.
- Get to know when it's time---baby sucking on hands, squirmy, or 3 hours from last feeding.
- Get your breasts ready---massage, hand expression---ask someone to help you as needed with this
- Get your Baby ready---sleepy??--gentle wake up-------- fussy??--calm down
- Get comfy/relax---pillow to lap and baby tummy to mommy.
- Get baby secure--hug hiney in with your arm/pressure at shoulders with your hand.
- Get breast positioned---hand in U shape and pressing behind areola (brown around nipple)---helps nipple stand out
- Get latched---nipple touching below baby's nose, baby opens wide, nipple on top of tongue---active suck pattern
- Not happening---do skin to skin---hand expression/pump---feed baby---Ask for help!!!
